Continuing the Legacy

OUR STORY

The Eileen P. Roche Foundation was established to honor and continue the generosity exemplified by Buddy and Eileen Roche. Rooted in their deep commitment to service and community, the Foundation is dedicated to creating lasting impact by supporting organizations that empower individuals and families to build better futures.

BUDDY & EILEEN were the children of Irish immigrants, raised during the hardships of the Great Depression and World War II. From a young age, they understood that stepping up for your neighbors in tough times wasn’t extraordinary — it was simply what you did.

As World War II ended, Buddy joined the Marines. After his service, he used the GI Bill to attend meat-cutting school — a practical step that laid the foundation for a lifelong journey of entrepreneurship and service. In 1952 he and his brother started Roche Bros. in his hometown of Roslindale, MA. Eileen grew up in Dorchester, went to Mission Hill High School and married Buddy in 1957.

By the time Buddy retired Roche Bros. Supermarkets had become a big company with multiple stores and he started to see the needs of his customers in many communities. Buddy and Eileen helped uncounted families and causes. They focused most of their efforts helping people to better their situation in a sustainable way through their efforts in education, affordable housing, nutrition, and family health.
